Thermal Spray is a surface engineering technology which generally involves the spraying of molten powder or wire feedstock via oxygen fuel combustion or an electric arc (plasma). The molten particles are accelerated by the flame onto a properly prepared substrate, usually metallic. After solidification the sprayed deposit is ultra-fine grained, having the properties associated with such microstructures. The materials which are sprayed include most metal alloys and ceramics in either powder or wire form.

Electric Arc wire spraying is the most economical, simple and fastest thermal spray process. It involves two current-carrying electrically conductive wires fed into a common arc point at which melting occurs. The molten material is continuously atomized by compressed air, forming a spray of molten metal with a material throughout, as high as 40 kg / Hr. This rate is the highest in standard industrial level thermal spray guns and allows for highly cost effective processing. Typical wire arc technology is used for heat and atmospheric corrosion resistant coatings for marine, infrastructure and industrial applications. Wire arc technology is also feasible for electrically conductive, anti-skid, bond and repair coatings.
